Sylvia J. “Shub” Nelson, 72, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on April 24, 2024, at Stormont Vail- Flint Hills Campus, surrounded by her loving family.

Sylvia was born on June 19, 1951, to Harold and Lillie (Curtis) Holland in Aragon, Georgia. In late 1951, Sylvia and her family moved to Junction City, Kansas. Sylvia attended grade school, junior high and graduated from Junction City High School in 1970. After graduation, Sylvia married the love of her life, Danny, on January 29, 1971, the couple had three boys. In 1970, Sylvia began working for the Geary County Attorney where she worked until 1974. From 1974-1976, she worked for the probate judge. Sylvia began her career with United Telephone Company beginning in 1976 through 1994.
Sylvia decided to leave her career to care for her family from 1994 to 1999. She then went back into the workforce at PayPhone Concepts as an accounting clerk from 1999 to 2007. After her work in communications, she transitioned to Geary Community Hospital in the Maintenance Department as the department administrative assistant from 2009 to 2013.
Sylvia loved her family. She enjoyed her time taking care of her loving husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies included spoiling her grandbabies, reading books, and studying her bible.Her goal in life was to live according to God’s word and be His obedient servant.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Danny; one son, Christopher (Rhianna) Nelson, their two daughters, Charleigh and Rylee of Manhattan, Kansas. Granddaughter, Marcella (Stephen) Hearn, their two sons Aaron and Micah of San Antonio, Texas. Three sisters; Janice (Alan) Moore of Junction City, Kansas, Terry (Marcus) Hammond of Manhattan, Kansas, and Karen (Ronald) Doyle of Junction City, Kansas; a host of other loving family members and friends.
She is preceded by her mother and father, two sons, Daniel and Joseph Nelson; one grandson, Joseph Nelson; three brothers, Homer, Jerry, Harold Holland; and one sister, Wanda Mathis.
