JC Post was notified about 8 a.m. by Geary County Emergency Management Director Garry Berges that a rolling blackout is under way in the northwest sector of Junction City and extending north to include the town of Milford. "The Area Supervisor for Evergy said the circuit that covered the northwest part of Junction City and extends on into the town of Milford and extends up 77, the Old 77 area, is now part of a rolling blackout." Berges added that it should last about 45 minutes so electric power should be back on by approximately 8:45 a.m.
The blackout is necessary to conserve energy due to the high usage that has occurred during the cold snap.
Berges also noted that Grandview Plaza, which is serviced by Flint Hills REA out of Council Grove and the areas between there and Council Grove will also be part of a blackout some time today as well.
