1st Infantry Division Competes in Virtual Army Ten-Miler

The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley Ten-Miler team, as well as members of the Fort Riley and Flint Hills communities will be taking part in the Army Ten-Miler on Sunday.

The 36th annual Army Ten-Miler was moved to a virtual event this year as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Traditionally, the race takes place in Washington D.C.. 

More than 35,000 runners have participated over the years from all around the globe, however this year's event was capped at 25,000 runners, with the race being run throughout the week of October 11-18th. 

Currently, Fort Riley has about 60 runners registered for the local event. Fort Riley and MWR is presenting the Fort Riley Ten-Miler to provide a safe and fun course for those registered for the virtual Army Ten-Miler to run their race. Mask wearing and social distancing guidelines will be in place for supporters during the event and for participants before and after the race. 

The event will feature the Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard, the 1st Infantry Division Band, Big Red One Medal of Honor recipient displays at each mile marker, and more. 

The race is set to begin on Sunday, October 11 at 8:00 a.m. at the Whitside Fitness Center at 684 Huebner Road in Fort Riley.
