Wilber Wallace Wright, age 80, died January 4, 2024, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland.

He was born July 18, 1943, in Fairfield, Alabama, the son of Wilber and Mary (Vaughn) Wright. Wilbur lived in Junction City for many years and moved to Manhattan in 2010.

On September 8, 1964, in Seoul, South Korea, he was married to Chong Suk Yi.

Wilber served for 22 years in the United States Army and retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He had received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/3 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medals (6), NCO Professional Development Ribbon “3”, and Expert (M-16 Rifle).

Following his Honorable Discharge Wilber worked for 25 years as a Corrections Officer for the Geary County Sheriff’s Department.

Wilber loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and spoiled them rotten.

He was a regular at the Early Edition Restaurant for breakfast and his daughter looked forward to joining him every weekend for breakfast.

Survivors include his daughter Mary Aramouni and her husband Fadi of Manhattan; and two grandsons Daniel and Alexander.

Wilber was preceded in death by his wife on October 10, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 15th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Ratliff officiating. Private interment will be in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley.
