The Army plans a street renaming ceremony in honor of Capt. Larry Taylor, Medal of Honor recipient on Friday at Smoky Hill Rd. and Marshall Dr.at Marshall Army Airfield. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.
Col. Matthew J. Hardman, 1st Infantry Division Deputy Commanding Officer – Maneuver, will host the ceremony to rename Smoky Hill Road to Taylor Street in honor of Capt. Larry Taylor, 1st Infantry Division Medal of Honor recipient.
In 2023, President Joe Biden awarded the Medal of Honor to Taylor, who had originally received a Silver Star for his actions in Vietnan on June 18, 1968, while serving as a Bell AH1-G Cobra attack helicopter pilot in the 1st Infantry Division.
Taylor passed away on Jan. 28, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
