Vera Mae McCabe, 80, of Nashville, Tennessee,
passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at her daughter’s home in
Tennessee, surrounded by her family.
Vera was born on June 17, 1942, in Troy, Iowa, the daughter of William
and Eva (Brewer) Freshour. As a young child, she accepted Jesus Christ
as her personal Savior. She was united in marriage to Earl Dean McCabe
and they settled in Fairfield, Iowa, and raised their five children. They
later divorced. While she lived in Fairfield, she worked at Chain and
Cable until they closed. Vera then moved to Nashville, Tennessee. She
began working at Nashville Wire and Whirlpool. Vera later found her
passion at the Gingerbread House Day Care Center, retiring at the age of
78. Vera loved watching reruns of Gunsmoke, The Rifleman and Marty
Stuart & Connie Smith country music shows. Vera never forgot her
roots; she loved coming to Iowa to visit family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, Earl (Rochelle) McCabe of
Fairfield, Linda (Stacy) Hunt of Nashville, Tennessee, Jane (Jim) Miller
of Wayland, Iowa, and Kenny (Bev) McCabe of Junction City, Kansas, along with
several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carol Kiefer,
grandsons, Shae McCabe and Jeremy Rogers, great grandson, Dakota Kiefer
and her brothers and sisters, Mary Graves, Joe Freshour, Kathy Freshour,
Jack Freshour, Dena Richardson, Gale Patterson and Helen Freshour.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m.
at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor David Forrester
officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery rural
Wayland. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time
on Saturday at the Murphy Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
