David Bauer, 74, of Abilene, KS, passed away on January 16th, 2024 in Wainwright Alaska. David was born in Peoria, IL to Robert & Maxine Bauer. He spent most of his life in North Glen, CO. His favorite story of growing up was being an honorary “Bat Boy” for the New York Yankees exhibition game played in Colorado after writing and being selected out of several thousand entries, an essay that was published in the local paper.
David graduated from Sterling College in 1971 and joined the Navy, serving for 2 years. However, his calling was in education. He began teaching in Olathe and his career brought him many places in Kansas including, Maxville, McPherson, Chapman, Kansas City and finally Alaska where he spent the last 24 years.
He married Carrie French Moseng in 1987. They enjoyed traveling with the grandkids on summer trips.
David spent his summers in Kansas reading, watching baseball and shuttling his two granddaughters to and from sports practices. He was an avid sports fan and knew all about history. Affectionately known as “Mr. Magoo” by his son-in-law, David could tell you the stats of a baseball game played 30 years ago or what might be of significance about a random date in history or historical artifact from 300 years ago.
David is survived by his wife Carrie, his stepchildren, Craig (Sarah) Moseng of West Fargo, ND; Amber (Tim) Stanley of Chapman, KS and Keith Moseng of Montevideo, MN; his grandchildren Andrew, Hannah and Ainsley Moseng, Josie and Morgen Stanley and Gavin Moseng. He is also survived by his brother Dan Bauer and nieces of Mountain Lake, MN.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Junction City Family YMCA, 1703 McFarland Rd. Junction City, KS 66441 where he spent his summers swimming. There will be a memorial service held for David in Wainwright Alaska in March.
