Marvin was born on September 8, 1965, in Axtell, KS, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Walters) Deters. He attended schools in Seneca graduating from Nemaha Valley High School, Highland Community College and Kansas State University.
On April 25, 1992, he married the love of his life, Danita Goeckel, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover, KS.
He began working at Reeves-Wiedeman in 1996, working his way up to branch manager in 2005. He enjoyed working with Jim and Kevin on the day-to-day operations of the branch and helping everyone that came through the doors. For him: RW, his co-workers, and customers felt like a second family.
He was proud of his sons, Ryan and Eric, and was involved in their lives through Boy Scouts, coaching, school events and sporting events, and teaching many life lessons.
Marvin was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Recently, he was honored to become a 4th Degree Knight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Connie, grandparents, father and mother in-law, Leo and Mary (Martin) Goeckel.
Survivors include his wife, Danita, of the home in Manhattan, his sons: Ryan Deters of Lenexa and Eric Deters of Roeland Park; Marvin was close to his brothers Tom Deters (Julene) of Baileyville, Wayne Deters (Stacy) of Springfield, MO, and Vern Deters, of Seneca; his other siblings Carl Deters (Frannie), of Carbondale, Kathleen Houser, of Topeka, Susan Huninghake (Galen), of Baileyville, Geraldine Staley (Steve), of Centralia and Betty Deters, of Seneca; his in-laws, Dianne Garber (Chuck), of Hanover, Connie Ronnebaum (Alan), of Axtell, Ron Goeckel, of Hanover, Phyllis Ohlde (Andrew), of Linn and Lisa Schwarz (Stuart), of Wamego; and his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and Kansas Jayhawks fan. He would even tolerate the Kansas State Wildcats for his wife, family, and friends. He was a family man with a big heart, a sports guru, enjoyed seeking a good bargain, playing cards or board games, a handyman, had an excellent memory and math skills, and was an informative weatherman.
His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday August 2, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. The Parish Vigil with the Rosary will be held at 7:00p.m. at the funeral home following the visitation.
