
Janet Lee Holcomb, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and steadfast friend passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family.
Janet was born in Topeka, KS on January 28, 1943, the youngest of three children to Conrad and Madeline Hinitt. At a young age her family moved to Junction City, KS where she attended St. Xavier Catholic School and graduated with the Class of 1961. After graduating, Janet relocated to Alexandria, VA, where she met and married the love of her life, John "Rick" Holcomb. Shortly thereafter, Janet and Rick moved back to Junction City to raise their two children, Gregg and Nicole, both of whom also graduated from St. Xavier. Junction City was home for close to fifty years before Rick and Janet decided to relocate and settle down closer to family in Leavenworth, KS.
Janet enjoyed gardening, reading, working on puzzles, spending time with her close friends, attending her grandchildren's activities, beating her family at Scrabble and adding to her impressive collection of garden gnomes, also known as "Gnome City." Janet was known for her quick-wit. playful sense of humor, kind-heartedness and deep loyalty and devotion to her relationships with her faith, family and close friends.
Janet is survived by her husband of 59 years, Rick; her children, Gregg ( Kristi ) Holcomb and Nicole ( Dave ) Haynes; seven beloved children and one great-grandchild, all who knew her as "Meme": her sister Mary Kay Paxton, and her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Madeline Hinitt, her brother, Lon Hinitt, Her brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Paxton, her nephew, Chris Paxton, and her precious babies whom she lost too soon but is now able to hold again.
A rosary and funeral will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, at 10:30, St. Xavier's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Catholic School or Catholic Charities.
