Janice Kay “Jan” Allen, age 77, a longtime Manhattan resident, died February 3, 2024, at Advena Living at Fountainview in Rose Hills, KS.
She was born September 19, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Dr. George W. and Marjorie “Marge” (Bernard) Allen, and moved to Manhattan in 1970.
Jan attended Wichita State University and received her Bachelor of Arts and later graduated from Kansas State University with her Master of Arts. She was a lifelong learner and continued to take classes at Kansas State for most of her life.
She taught for several years in the public schools and at a Community College and then she followed her passion as a song writer and music composer.
Jan was a member of the Audubon Society and loved the land and nature. She enjoyed dancing, the arts and theater and her family history. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Debby (Capalbo) Jones and her husband Dan of Bastrop, TX; two grandchildren: Claire and Henry Jones; one sister Susan Allen and her spouse Kay Garrett of Manhattan; one aunt and uncle: Patricia Lister and Dwight Allen, as well as numerous cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday, February 16th, at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan with the Reverend Caela Simmons Wood officiating. Family and friends are invited to meet at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home to form a procession to the cemetery.
