Mark S. Ramsey, age 69, died on Sunday, 5 March 2023, at St. Catherine
Hospital in Garden City, Finney County, Kansas. He was born on 1
January 1954 in Garden City, the son of Roger H. Ramsey and Lois Mae
(Boyd) Ramsey. Mark married Elaine E. Kells on 1 February 1980 in
Garden City.
Mark graduated from Garden City High School in 1972 and from the Garden
City Community College in 1974. During his school years and
subsequently, he operated a farm north of Garden City with his brother.
During his youth, Mark was involved in 4-H, as a member of the Beacon
Boosters, and in Future Farmers of America. For many years Mark was
active in the Sand & Sage Rifle Club. He was a leader for youth 4-H
shooting sports and an NRA certified instructor for Youth Shooting
Sports. Mark was a charter member of the board of the Sand & Sage
Rifle Club Collector Show.
Mark enjoyed fly fishing, making fishing poles, hunting pheasants,
downhill snow skiing and traveling with his family. He especially
enjoyed building a barn and creating shelters for Elaine's show goat
breeding enterprise.
Adept at repairing broken machines and a meticulous farmer, Mark was
very particular about all phases of crop production from planting
through harvest. He was normally a quiet person, who did not often
initiate conversation, but once engaged he communicated many ideas and
thoughts. Mark readily shared with others his first-hand knowledge
about the productivity of various crop varieties. He was a recipient of
the irrigated land soil conservation award from the Finney County Soil
Conservation District.
Survivors are: Mark's wife, Elaine E. Ramsey of the home; a daughter,
Sarah M. Strasser (husband: Ryan) of Juneau, Wisconsin; his mother, Lois
M. Ramsey of Garden City, Kansas; a brother, Michael K. Ramsey (wife:
Pamela) of Garden City, Kansas; a sister, Marsha P. Viers of Junction
City, Kansas; a sister, Michelle M. McDaniel (husband: Mick) of Junction
City, Kansas; a half-sister Remington Pettit (husband: Dustin) of
