RILEY COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a fire at a home Sunday in Riley County.

Just after 10:12 a.m. on Sunday, the Riley County Fire District was paged for a fire at a home at 10919 Lakeside Drive in Manhattan, according to Emergency Management Director Pat Collins.

The University Park station arrived first and found a fully engulfed residence. Four other stations responded to assist with 32 volunteers.

The female tenant and her 12-year-old daughter were home at the time of the fire. They were not injured.  One firefighter injury was reported when the floor collapsed into the basement where he was working.

The building was owned by RPM LLC. Ryan Kruse spoke for the owners and said he had a $150,000 loss involved with just the structure. The loss for contents exceeds $60,000. The home was a total loss, according to Collins. The extensive damage to home prohibits an exact cause but the fire appeared to start in the mud room.

The fire was controlled in about two hours and all of the units returned to their station by 4p.m., according to Collins.
