Lyle Dale Barker of Chapman Kansas, went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2024.

Lyle was born the 6th of 7 children on July 10, 1940, in Stilwell OK. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years in McPherson KS, where he was known as “Punch” by his family members. He graduated from Emporia State Teacher’s College where he met the love of his life, Trudy Seaton. They moved to California in 1964 where they were married and both started their teaching careers. Over the next several years, they started their family, moved to Colorado and then to St. Louis, where he worked for the Defense Mapping Agency as a cartographer. He was transferred to Washington D.C. in 1989 and finished his career there in 1996.

After retirement, they moved back to Chapman to the farm. Lyle loved to fish with his children and grandchildren and will always be remembered for his “cat” like reflexes. He loved to play cards with his friends at the Senior Center and was known for “shooting the moon.” He served on the board of the Chapman Senior Center and was also a board member of the Chapman Lions Club. He was also an active member of Chapman Methodist Church.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Trudy (Seaton) Barker, a daughter Rachel Thrash (Thad), a son Gregory Barker (Lesa) and a son Bradley (Lea), seven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, 2 brothers, Vernon and Bob and a sister, Peggy Brower. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Rose (Casebeer) Barker, and 3 brothers, Raymond, George and Gene.

Memorial Services for Lyle will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Chapman First United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at the Rinehart Cemetery, rural Chapman. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Chapman United Methodist Church or to the Chapman Senior Center. Memorials may be dropped off at the funeral home or mailed to Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel, PO Box 411, Chapman, Kansas 67431.
