Anthony Getchel, 97, of Canajoharie, New York, and recently of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Cremation will take place. A graveside service will be held at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1820 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67214, or any good cause that would benefit military veterans.
He was born on February 20, 1925, Denbo, Pennsylvania, to Anthony and Elizabeth (Kovach) Getchel.
Anthony volunteered for the United States Marine Corps on July 25, 1942. He served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. After the war, he became a dairy farmer in central New York and farmed for over 25 years.
Anthony is survived by his daughters, Pamela (James) Emerson of Junction City, Kansas, Sandra Getchel of Delaware; four grandsons, Michael, Mathew, and Mark Patulski, and Mitchell Emerson; granddaughter, Jessica Moreno-Getchel-Burke; and two great grandchildren, Taylor and Jarek Patulski.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Alan and Ronald Getchel; and daughter, Audrey Getchel.
