Hazel Marceil Lauppe

Hazel Marceil (Ring) Lauppe, age 90, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, Kansas.

She was born on May 16, 1935, to parents Franklin Boyd and Hazel Maude (Searle) Ring in Winfield, Kansas.Marceil married George Merrill Lauppe on December 27, 1955, in Burden, Kansas. Together they enjoyed a family reunion every year, vacations and traveling. Together, they did a trip to Hawaii, and also drove their 1929 Model A to the Arctic Circle and back.

Marceil earned her RN degree from Wesley School of Nursing on September 7, 1956. Over the years, she worked at Winfield State Hospital, Topeka State Hospital, and the 1st United Methodist Church Preschool. She was a VNA Nurse from 1968 to 1980. She then became the Executive Director of the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association from 1980 to 2002.

Marceil enjoyed making quilts. She made over 100 quilts for family members, friends and  donations. She also made 17 table runners and 6 baby quilts for family. She would also donate her quilts to others who were in need. For the 1st United Methodist Church of Lawrence, she would collect food, volunteer for Sunday School, and deposit the offerings every Monday for the Church.

She is the past president, vice president and treasurer of the Kansas Home Care Association and a member of the Kansas Department of Aging and Council for Client Assessment, Referral and Evaluation. She served on the board chair of the Community Drop In Center from 2002 to 2004 and as a board member of the Lawrence Community Shelter. Among those, she served on the United Way of Douglas County Allocation Committee and was the United Methodist Women Social Action Mission Coordinator.Marceil received several honors, including the Lawrence Board of Realtors Humanitarian Award in 2003 and the 1991 Florence J. Nelson Outstanding Employer Award from the Kansas State Nurses Association. In 2023, she was inducted  into the Kansas Homecare and Hospice Association Hall of Fame.

She is survived by her son, George (Annette) Lauppe, Manhattan; daughter, Sonya (Dale) Anders, Chapman; grandchildren, Shane (Andrea) Lauppe, Craig (Lindsay) Lauppe, Austin Anders, Aaron (MiKayla) Anders, Augustus (Kristen) Anders; grandchildren, Owen, Cora, Everly, Harper, Adam and AuRoara.Marceil was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband George, and her sister, Claudine Mae (Ring) Lundy.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 10, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, 946 Vermont Street in Lawrence, Kansas.Memorial contributions may be made out to the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Marceil Lauppe VNA Scholarship Fund, or the Lawrence Homeless Community Shelter, in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502
