
Firefighters responded about 2:10 a.m. to in the 6900 Old Milford Road location three miles northwest of Junction City. The house occupied by Aloisia Hagen, 84, was destroyed in the blaze She escaped unharmed.
Garry Berges, Geary County Rural Fire Chief, said a 911 call was received on the fire. "The resident had an alarm going off, smelled smoke and was able to see some flames. Geary County responded with four truck, 15 firefighters and due to the extreme cold and limited water supply Fort Riley responded with a pumper and a tanker unit to assist us."
Berges noted that the resident was able to get out of the house with the aid of a Sheriff's Deputy. Hagen was checked at the scene by EMS and refused medical treatment. She is being assisted by the Red Cross and a friend who lived nearby.
Berges said the house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. It was a total loss. Authorities will work today to determine the cause of the fire. Berges confirmed Hagen did have insurance on the structure.
