Virginia Lorane Martin was born August 10, 1919, in Atchison, Kansas from the parents of Walter J. Martin and Bertha M. Jackson. She was raised in Atchison, Kansas along with her sisters Thelma and Edna, attended schools therein and graduated from Atchison High School in 1937. Virginia worked at various jobs in Atchison before moving to Kansas City. After two years in Kansas City, she moved to Fairfield, California where she met and married her Air Force officer husband Edward P. Noordyk who predeceased her in 2004. Together, they enjoyed 57 years of marriage traveling to locations including Hawaii, Philippines, Texas, Virginia and back to California. Virginia was an accomplished seamstress and later earned an Associate’s Arts degree as well as a previous Licensed Practical Nursing credential from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Her nursing credentials led to a position at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, CA from which she retired. Virginia enjoyed antiquing, golf, bingo, raising roses and quilting (from which she received many awards).
She passed away peacefully on July 9, 2022, just a month short of her 103rd birthday. Having outlived most all her relatives and friends, she leaves her only son, Richard D. Noordyk, two grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her father in the McFarland City cemetery on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 1:30 pm.
