Local, state, and federal officials were host to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of Phase I of the Manhattan levee project on Wednesday, October 9.

The project, which was a partnership between the City of Manhattan and USACE, will provide crucial flood risk reduction for the city through substantially enhanced reliability and structural integrity. Construction of Phase I began in the fall of 2021 and was completed in September. The total construction cost of the project, including a future Phase II, is $46.2 million, of which 65 percent was funded by USACE and 35 percent was funded by the City of Manhattan.

Construction of Phase II is tentatively scheduled to start in June 2026. In the meantime, the Linear Trail is now fully reopened to pedestrians and cyclists!
