Superintendent issues first summer update for USD 383

Posted Jun 21, 2021 12:23 AM

Immediately after school ended, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marvin Wade said USD 383 began providing summer meals and educational services to students, training for staff, technology upgrades, and scheduled annual maintenance of facilities, grounds and vehicles.

  1. All departments are on-track to be ready for the August 18 first day of school.
  2. Construction projects remain on schedule, including the opening of Oliver Brown Elementary.
  3. Plans are being finalized for the movement of sixth grade to our middle schools and for changes necessitated by redistricting.

USD 383 continues to comply with Coronavirus guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  1. Fully vaccinated individuals, with a few notable exceptions, do not need to wear masks on USD 383 property. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated are expected to wear a mask inside USD 383 facilities. Please note that optional summer activities may require individuals to show a vaccination card.
  2. Anyone 12-years and older who can be vaccinated is strongly encouraged to do so. Having a large percentage of individuals vaccinated is the best way to fully reopen our schools and community. Vaccinations are available at most local pharmacies and the Riley County Health Department.
  3. We continue to work closely with the Riley County Health Department (RCHD), including monitoring compliance with mitigation guidelines and pausing (or canceling) activities where outbreaks occur. We would like others to support RCHD contact tracing efforts - identifying and contacting individuals who have been around someone testing positive is one of the best ways to contain any outbreak.
