Dorothy Jeane Lufburrow (nee Summers), age 98, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of Cheshire, CT.
Dorothy Lufburrow passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023, at Meadowlark Hills. Dot was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1925. Her family moved to Kansas where she was raised on a farm a few miles east of Manhattan, attending the Swamp Angel one room school and St. George high school. She graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1947, where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. Post graduation she worked as a buyer for Macy's in Kansas City. After marrying Peter C. Lufburrow in 1953, they moved to New Jersey for a few years and then settled permanently in Cheshire, CT where they raised three children, Douglas, Jean and Mark. Dot worked in the Cheshire School District and at Quinnipiac College as a library technician. In 1991 Dot and Pete moved to Manhattan for retirement.
Dot was an avid reader and enjoyed following Kansas State sports and watching professional baseball. She travelled extensively around the US and Canada with her daughter and made a number of trips to Europe with family and friends.
Dot was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Pete. She is survived by her three children, son Douglas of Tennessee, daughter Jean, a nomad, and son Mark and his wife Victoria of Pennsylvania. Dot was affectionately known as “Grammy” to grandsons Daniel and Matthew Lufburrow.
You can visit with the family and enjoy some photos of Dot's life on Wednesday, October 25 at 11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. in the Flint Hills room of Meadowlark Hills. We will then hold a Celebration of Life at the Sunrise Cemetery at 1:00 p.m..
