New Year’s Eve is one of the deadliest days of the year for drunk driving. Riley County Police Department joins law enforcement across the state to provide education about the importance of driving sober.
Drivers can expect to see increased law enforcement presence on local roads during the statewide Taking Down DUI campaign, which runs Dec. 26-Jan. 2.According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every day about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. These deaths were all preventable.If you’re drinking, don’t drive. Being a responsible driver is simple:· Plan a safe ride home before the party. If you drink, don’t drive, call a ride-share, taxi or a sober friend.
- If someone has been drinking, take their keys and arrange a sober ride home.
- If you see an impaired driver, contact local law enforcement.
