UPDATE: Minor injuries reported in crash on East Poyntz Ave near Aldi’s

UPDATE: According to Riley County Police Department, Public Information Officer, Aaron Wintermote, shortly before 6:00 pm, Wednesday, November 9th, Barbara Kilian, 34, of Wamego was driving a 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe westbound on Highway 24, waiting in the median to cross the eastbound lanes and enter the Aldi's parking lot.

Kilian failed to yield, entering the eastbound lanes, causing the Sante Fe to collide with a 2015 Subaru Forester driven by Christina Lecuyer, 59, of Washington, KS head-on.

Kilian was cited for failure to yield. A street sign and light pole were also damaged in the crash.

Just before 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 9th, emergency crews were called out to the scene of a two vehicle crash just east of the intersection of Tuttle creek Boulevard, Fort Riley Blvd. and East Poyntz Avenue (US Highway 24).

Riley County Police Department, Riley County EMS and Manhattan Fire Department all responded to the scene of the crash.

Upon arrival crews found two SUVs had crashed into each other and hit a power pole.

One SUV sustained major front end damage, while the other one had the wheels on the driver's side come off the vehicle.

Two people involved in the crash had minor injuries, but declined transport by Riley County EMS.

Eastbound traffic through the area was rerouted while crews worked the scene of the crash. The roadway was cleared just before 6:45 pm.
