Roger C. Juhl, 66, passed away February 1, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, after a 3-month battle with cancer.
Roger was born in Illinois and lived in the suburbs of Chicago. The family home he grew up in was surrounded by horse pastures and a forest preserve. He and his sisters had plenty of room to roam and enjoy the outdoors. He loved the north woods, spending many summers at the family cabin in northern Wisconsin and on annual canoe trips with his dad to the Boundary Waters in Canada. Fishing was a passion for Roger, especially musky fishing. He believed in treating fish gently and attempted to release them all unharmed. He would proclaim almost every day “a good day for musky.”
Roger graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, with degrees in finance and marketing. He continued his education and found his true calling in computer programming. He excelled in the field and became the data base administrator for a large medical equipment company. He worked there until his early retirement.
In his later years Roger had health issues which limited his mobility. He was fiercely independent and fought may obstacles so he could continue to live in his house. He had a great attitude, never wanting to give up on anything, and always had a wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his sister Gloria Juhl Raney (Doug Denning) of Manhattan, sister Cynthia Carpenter (Warren) of Mountain Home, AR, nephews, Jason Carpenter, David Carpenter (Eileen), great nephew JC Carpenter, stepmother Elaine Juhl, stepsisters Margaret Kernan and Catherine Mazur (Mark), stepbrother Erick Bergstrom (Nicole), many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, one aunt and a number of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and several close friends.
