POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY - Starting Monday, June 5th, the Kansas Department of Transportation project on U.S. 24 in Pottawatomie County will begin.

The project will extend from the K-177/Fort Riley Boulevard intersection in Manhattan to just east of Excel Road, an approximately 4-mile long stretch.

Lane closures will occur during the project while crews work to widen the shoulder, milling and overlay work and pavement marking which will be completed in both directions of U.S. 24.

The works zone will have a 10-foot width restriction and speeds will be reduced to 40 mph during the project.

Work will take place Monday through Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

During this KDOT construction project, the City of Manhattan will continue to work on the section of U.S. 24 near Levee Drive. Lane closures that are part of that project will remain until the City completes the project.

Shilling Construction Company is expected to complete the $2.6 million project by the end of July.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of highway construction projects across Kansas, go to www.kandrive.org or call 5-1-1.
