MANHATTAN — The Academy of St Martin in the Fields will take the stage at Kansas State University’s McCain Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21. The piano soloist for the performance will be Bruce Liu. Works to be performed will include Copland’s “Quiet City,” Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9, “Shaker Loops” by John Adams, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 29.
The Academy of St Martin in the Fields chamber orchestra is renowned for fresh interpretations of the world’s greatest orchestral music. Formed by Sir Neville Marriner in 1958 from a group of leading London musicians, the ASMF gave its first performance in its namesake church in November 1959. Through incredible live performances and a vast recording output, the orchestra gained an international reputation for its distinctive, polished and refined sound.
