RILEY COUNTY—There were no injuries after an kitchen fire in Manhattan.
Just after 11p.m. Monday, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at 1207 Kearney Street Apartment 4, according to a media release.
Crews found a three-story apartment building with nothing showing. Upon investigation, crews found smoke and fire upon entering apartment 4 in the three-story apartment building and they quickly extinguished a small fire on the stove.
Fire damage was contained to the apartment where the fire started. The occupant was alerted by the smoke detectors in the apartment and was able to safely exit. There were no injuries reported.
The occupant of apartment 4 was displaced from the residence due to fire damage.
The fire department said this is a great reminder to ensure having working smoke alarms. Loss is estimated at $10,000 to the structure and $1000 to contents. The fire's cause was due to an unattended cooking fire.
