Gregory Keith Abernathy, age 65, of Manhattan, died June 15, 2023, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.
He was born March 23, 1958, in Gideon, Missouri, the son of Louis and Shirley (May) Abernathy. The family moved to Kansas when Greg was young, first to Junction City and then later to Manhattan.
Greg graduated from Manhattan High School in 1977.
He retired from Federal Civil Service at Fort Riley where he worked in Public Works in 2021.
Greg was a wonderful husband and father, and a great person that was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved his family, all animals, and was a huge Kansas State University sports fan!
On January 5, 1980, in Clay Center, Kansas, he was married to Kimberly Pyle. Kim survives of the home. Additional survivors include his daughter Kara K. Axelton and her husband Britt of Manhattan; four siblings: David Abernathy (Linda) of Wamego, Terry Abernathy (Deb) of Junction City, KS, Sandra Cartwright (Jon) of Bentonville, AR, and Elva Abernathy (Cherie) of Salina; and Kim’s brother and sister: Carl Pyle of Salina, KS, and Jennifer Culderon of Clearwater, KS.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p .m. Saturday, June 24th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the visitation with private family services to be held at a later date.
