Travel spending generates $23.7 million in state and local sales tax revenue in Manhattan.
City commissioners heard Tuesday night that travel is an economic driving force that benefits businesses. Visitors are drawn to Manhattan where they can explore experiences ranging from Big 12 sports and the Flint Hills Discovery Center to the Museum of Art and Light, hiking and biking trails, zipline, hunting and fishing.
May 4-10 has been proclaimed as National Travel and Tourism Week.
The Director of Visit Manhattan, Marcia Rozell, said "Tourism does matter in Manhattan." Restaurants, hotels and retail shops offer something unique to visitors. "In return those visitors bring in outside dollars that are vital to our local economy."
