There has been a recent expansion of services in capacity and hours on Fort Riley. Col. William McKannay, Garrison Commander, told a Fort Riley Community Town Hall audience that's great and came after a deliberate decision making process where experts were brought in and discussions were held with leaders to ensure the right decisions were being made, "to provide services to our population in a safe way."
McKannay added that as the weather improves and activities increase remember Fort Riley may be looking good as far as COVID-19 numbers are concerned, "trending in the right direction as far as COVID numbers go. We're still not out of the woods yet, we've still got a lot of work to do. Vaccines are happening, numbers are going down but I want you all to remember that we are where we are because of the diligence towards the mitigations that you all have done, that you've all been so good in applying." McKannay asked the audience to continue those efforts.
The garrison commander noted that face masks are still required and necessary even though the Post may expand some numbers allowed in certain facilities or allow some previous disallowed activities. "The only way we're going to continue on that positive trend is if you continue to follow the mitigations that are in place."
