Myrna Rae Michaelis, 83, of McFarland, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at St. Marys Manor. She was a life-long member of the McFarland area.
Myrna was born on June 28, 1940, in McFarland, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Mabel Marie (Czirr) TenEyck. She attended local grade school and graduated from Alma High School in 1958.
Myrna married Wilfred Joe “Swede” Michaelis on her birthday, June 28, 1958, in Wamego. After sixty-two years together, He preceded her in death on December 28, 2020.
Myrna was a homemaker and caregiver. She loved raising and caring for her family and on numerous occasions, would care for other friends and family members, especially at the end of their lives. Over the years she worked at various jobs including being a clerk at the Post Office, doing housekeeping at the Alma Manor, and working at the grocery store in McFarland. Myrna loved making ceramics. She would not only decorate but would pour and fire her pieces. She loved to crochet, knit, quilt and do various types of needle work. She also enjoyed many hours working jigsaw puzzles. Myrna was a braille transcriptionist and worked many years with the Lutheran Braille Workers transcribing religious material into braille. Myrna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and helped with Vacation Bible School.
Myrna is survived by her children, Johnny Michaelis (Matilda) of Maple Hill, Alan Michaelis (RaeLynn) of Belvue, Denise McDaniel (Terry) of Paxico, Brian Michaelis (Polly) of Alma and David Michaelis (Yvette) of Wichita; her twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jupe TenEyck (Peggy), of Alma, Larry TenEyck (Shirley), of Wamego, and Carol Jones, and Vicki Browning, both of Manhattan. Myrna was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Kirk Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 15, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. They suggest memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Marys Manor, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.
