KDOT has presented a "People Saving People" award to the Riley County Police Department for improving safety on roads through the Operation A.R.C. initiative.

Operation A.R.C. ( Accident Reduction Citations ) is a traffic enforcement campaign built around procedural justice and local crash statistics. The campaign uses research conducted by Kansas State University and recent crash data to reduce the number of accidents on roadways. The K-State research surveyed local citizens asking what the top traffic offenses the public cares about and believes the police department should be enforcing.

The study showed citizens want RCPS to focus on violations ranging from driving under the influence and speeding, especially in school zones, to running red lights and stop signs, and cell phone use, especially texting.
