Albert Ray “Al” Dieball, age 74, of Manhattan, died February 17, 2024, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, with his family by his side, after an 11-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
He was born February 20, 1949, in Manhattan, KS, the son of Ray Herman and Betty L. (Rochester) Dieball.
Al graduated from Alma High School in 1967 and then from Manhattan Vo-Tech in 1969 in drafting.
He was a Registered Land Surveyor for 47 years with BG Consultants, retiring in 2023 as Senior Project Surveyor. His land surveying career spanned 54 years. He had also served for eight years in the Army Reserves.
Al loved to be outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He participated in many bass fishing and catfish tournaments. He served as tournament director for the Kansas District of U.S. Catfish Anglers Tournament Series for many years.
He loved his family and he looked forward to spending time with and caring for his granddaughter Blake.
On June 10, 1972, in Alma, he was married to Kathy E. Leonard. Kathy survives of the home. Additional survivors include his daughter Shanna Griffin and her husband Kevin of Manhattan; one granddaughter Blake Nicole Griffin; and two brothers: Robert Dieball and his wife Kayla, and Marc Dieball and his wife Kathy of Leonardville.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Jennie Dieball, nephew Tyrel Dieball and niece Callea Breiner.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 9th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Kevin Larson officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 AM Saturday to the service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation (enriches the lives of children with special needs through fishing) and the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
