Robert L. “Bob” Fager, 70, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Wamego, passed away on Wednesday (January 3, 2024) at his home.

Born February 19, 1953, in Abilene, Kansas, Bob was the son of Lawrence and Dorothy Fager.  He was a graduate of Abilene High School where he excelled in sports, football, basketball and running track.  He earned an Associate Degree from Hutchinson Junior College and attended Kansas State University for one year .

Bob married Jacquelyn K. Christian on August 2, 1975, in Abilene, Kansas. They made Wamego their first home, where they lived for seven years and raised both of their children. She survives.

Bob was employed in management for many years and was known for putting in 70 to 80 hours a week regularly. He began his career with Safeway Foods and later worked at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us before moving to Westlake Ace Hardware where he worked for 20 years until his retirement in 2021.  During his career, Bob earned several awards and commendations for his management.

A collector of everything, Bob was also a Hot Rod car enthusiast.  His fondest memories were of the time he spent growing up on the farm, later on fishing with his grandchildren and the time he shared with his family. Bob loved the cats he had over the years, most recently, “Abby.”  He never knew a stranger and his kind and caring nature meant he was always looking to help others.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie; two children, Shane Fager of Olathe, KS and Kellie Fager-Gonzales of Lone Jack, MO; two grandchildren, Isaiah Gonzales and Elijah Gonzales; two sisters, Jane Haney of Carlton, KS and Verna Bender of Abilene, KS; a sister in law, Prudence Fager of Wamego, KS; two brothers in law, John Christian (Keryl) and Rick Christian both of Hutchinson, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Fager; and six brothers in law, Harlow Haney, Don Bender, David Christian, Randy Christian, Steve Christian and Jim Christian.

 Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

 Graveside memorial services will be held Friday morning (January 19, 2024) at 11:30 in Wamego City Cemetery.  Friends are invited to attend the services.

 Following the graveside service, a luncheon will be provided at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 17535 Say Rd, Wamego, KS 66547.
