MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - Members of the public were asked to leave Wednesday night’s USD 383 school board meeting after discussion over Critical Race Theory turned heated.
The Manhattan-Ogden School District USD 383 held its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, June 30.
CRT was not on the agenda, however, members of the public quickly brought it up during the public comment portion of the meeting.
Towards the end of the time allotted for public comment, arguments between commenters and those in the audience began to erupt.
School Board President, Jurdene Coleman, eventually asked the public to leave and allowed the media to stay.
Discussion among board members indicated those who were asked to leave could view the remainder of the meeting on the district’s live Facebook and YouTube broadcasts.
The board took a 15-minute recess to collect their thoughts and when they returned, the public was allowed back inside. The meeting continued, however, public comments were no longer taken.
