Eugene “Harvey” Kalivoda passed away peacefully at age 97 on June 10th, 2022, at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, Kansas. Harvey was born on May 24th, 1925, in Cuba, Kansas to Steve and Mary (Kauer) Kalivoda.
He was one of eight graduates from Cuba High School in 1943. Raised on a farm just outside of Cuba, he married Phyllis Morgison of Clifton, Kansas on March 26th, 1947, and moved to Clifton to be owner-manager of the Bi-Low Market IGA Store for 6 years. In 1950, he started with Northern Natural Gas Co. and then in 1966 he began a very successful career as an insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Company. Retiring from Prudential in 1988, he continued his insurance business as an independent agent well into his 80’s.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, older brother Vernon, and parents. Harvey is survived by his sons: Roger and wife Julie; Rod and wife Cindy; Greg and wife Shannon; 5 grandsons and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was a devoted husband of 68 years and a father who wanted the best for his family and friends over the years. As a charitable civic minded individual, he belonged to the local Lions Club, Elks Club, Clay Center Masonic Lodge #134, and a 32o Scottish Rite mason. One of his pleasures was marching in parades as part of the ISIS Temple Oriental Band of Salina, Kansas and banging on his gong.
The visitation will be held on Monday June 20th from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.
