Riley County Police Director Brian Peete informed a Connect & Protect town hall meeting audience Wednesday night that the Flint Hills Wellness Coalition will lead the charge to address homelessness. Other agencies can then provide wrap around services to support the effort. Information can be shared between organizaions.
The homeless can be dealing with a variety of issues. The Riley County Police Department will work with community parners with Peete noting one point is how do they help people getter. Behavior is a key issue that will need to be addressed by police.
Peete said, "The task force will be permanent to address issues of homelessness. "
Examples of key issues for the community to address could include substance abuse and mental health.The RCPD will concentrate on criminal disruptive behavior.
