Carol Colleen Howard, 83, died at Chapman Valley Manor in Chapman, Kansas on September 15, 2025.
She was born December 26th, 1941 in Alta Vista, KS and graduated from Alta Vista High School. After high school, she worked at various retail stores and a thrift store with her family. She met and married Martin Miles Howard in 1959 and they started a family soon after.
Carol spent most of her life caring for others and being involved in various groups and activities such as the Rebekahs, 4-H, the Boy Scouts and all of the various sports her children were in. She loved music, reading, cooking, playing Bingo and watching the Kansas City Royals. We will always remember her for being welcoming of others, even when it came to her children’s friends. She was almost like a second mom to some of them. She was selfless and devoted to her family. Their well-being was most important to her.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel Howard (Carol) of Abilene, KS; son Benjamin Howard of Junction City, KS; Shawn Howard (Nicole); of Chapman, KS; Jacob Howard (Angela) of Burlingame, KS; grandchildren, Clint Howard (Haley) of Abilene, KS; Zach Howard of San Diego, CA; Rachel Howard of Longmont, CO; Paige Howard of Pittsburgh, KS; Addison Howard of Burlingame, KS and a great grandchild, Kemper Howard of Abilene, KS, and her brother Roger Matthews of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Jesse Matthews and Velma Christine (Newsome) Matthews; her husband Martin Miles Howard; brother Wesley Matthews; and sister Sherry Andres.
