On February 14, 1976, he married Judy Ellen (Estes) Smith. Together they raised two daughters and were married for almost 50 years.
Anyone who knew George knew his sarcastic sense of humor. He was a huge Raiders football fan and enjoyed watching western movies and fishing videos. George was the very first male telephone operator in Junction City and dispatch for Fort Riley.
George is survived by his loving wife, Judy Smith, his daughters, Mary Pope of Junction City, Kansas, Julie Smith of Junction City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Tyler Pope of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nicholas Pope of Beacon, Iowa, Nathaniel Smith, Kaylie Snyder; and two great grandchildren, Mazikeen Pope, Alexandra Pope.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
He has wanted and said he was ready for this day to come. Our family has found peace in knowing he is no longer in pain and that he is giving his lost loved ones a hard time up there.
