Steve D. Worley, 80 of Clay Center, died Friday January 19, 2024 at the UKHS Saint Francis Campus in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on February 5, 1943 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Joseph E. and Velda K. (DesJardins) Worley.
Steve grew up and attended school in Clay Center, graduating in 1961. He attended Fort Hays State University on a football scholarship. He married Dorothy Savener on August 19, 1962 and she preceded him in death on August 19, 1981. After graduating from Fort Hays State, Steve served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. After returning to Clay Center, he worked as a rural lineman for C&W, and later Bluestem, for 32 years. Steve would later marry Carol O’Neal on August 1, 1992. He is also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Joe and Robert and sister Robin Rouse.
He was a member of the Clay Center Country Club, Clay Center Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and golfing. He was also an avid collector of many different antiques.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carol Worley of Clay Center, Kansas; daughter, Paula and husband, Randy Wewer of Manhattan, Kansas ; step son, Todd Nelson of Riley, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, Trace (Faith) Nelson, Blake (Antonia) Wewer, Ty (Kori) Nelson and Reece Wewer; 2 great grandchildren, Nyla Nelson and Mateo Wewer; 2 sisters, Vicki and husband, Doug Marshall of Brookville, Kansas and Patti and husband, Steve Curtiss of Topeka, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to the Clay Center Country Club or the Anthony Bates Foundation and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
