Pierre Scharfe

Pierre Scharfe, age 75, of Manhattan, died March 8, 2022, at his residence.

He was born August 20, 1946, in Vallander, Germany, the son of Willy and Marianne (Poschardt) Scharfe.

Pierre served in the United States Army from April 15, 1966 to April 14, 1970. He served in Vietnam and was honorable discharged at the rank of Sergeant.

He was the credit and collections and later accounts payable supervisor for McCall Pattern Company. He also worked for a liquor store, Hibachi Hut and for many years at Harry’s Restaurant along with his full-time job at McCall’s.

Pierre loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed movies, drives and traveling Route 66, his orange/black 69 Camaro, keeping his car spotless, going to car shows, seeing the sights, history, reading, surfing when younger, airplanes, his pet dogs and working in the yard. He was very social and enjoyed his coffee group, and serving on his homeowner’s association board.

On May 23, 1986, he was married to Susan Zarger. Susan survives of the home. Additional survivors include his daughter Wendy (Scharfe) Orf and her husband Chris of Nixa, Missouri; brother Rene Scharfe of Buckeye, CA; two grandsons: Blaine Kearns and William Scharfe; and his daughter in law Mary Scharfe.

Pierre was preceded in death his son Robert Scharfe and his sister Elizabeth Scharfe.

The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 18th, at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
