Just before 8:00 pm on Tuesday evening, Manhattan Fire Department crews were called out to the report of a structure fire near the intersection of Colbert Hills and Eldridge Drives.

Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the garage of the single story residence, and quickly gained access to the garage, extinguishing the fire in under an hour.

The residents were home at the time of the fire and were able to escape unharmed before emergency crews arrived.

Seventeen firefighters responded on 5 fire apparatus with units remaining on scene to watch for and extinguish hotspots and assist with the investigation.

Loss is estimated at $5,000 to contents and $3,000 to the structure. The owner is listed as Trumain and Juakeenia Carroll and of Manhattan, Ks. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
