The Manhattan City Commission work session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, will focus on an update on pavement management and street maintenance from the Public Works Department. Annually, the Governing Body receives an overview on the pavement management of arterial, collector, and local streets. The update also includes information on past and current construction projects, the Safe Routes to School program, and future projects that are planned for the community.
The full memo and presentation can be previewed by viewing the meeting agenda here.
The City’s 0.2% Street Maintenance Sales Tax has now been in place for five years of its 10-year time frame. The Public Works Department will provide a five-year review of the street maintenance program, as well as discuss any potential approaches for renewing the sales tax after its sunset date in 2026.
Over the last five years, the City has been able to spend $9.5 million in Street Maintenance Sales Tax funds and $5.8 million in state/federal gas tax revenues on street maintenance. In addition, City street crews over the past five years have been able to improve 13,607 cubic yards of concrete, install 3,384 tons of asphalt, and fill 73,365 potholes!
These metrics are a testament to the City’s dedication to achieving Goal 3 of the City’s 5-year Strategic Plan: An Enhanced Network of Infrastructure.
The City Commission work session will be broadcast live on Cox Channel 3, the City website and the City of Manhattan Facebook page.
