North Manhattan Avenue project OK'd by commission

The Manhattan City Commission on Tuesday unanimously authorized City staff to execute a contract amendment in the amount of $2,678,610.75 with Bayer Construction, of Manhattan, for the North Campus Corridor, Phase VIII, North Manhattan Avenue Streetscape and Lighting Project completion.

City administration requested quotes from both regional contractors working on the two existing North Campus Corridor projects along Kimball, Bayer Construction and Ebert Construction. The intent was to add this project, by contract amendment, into one of the contractor’s existing projects. The project will include landscaping, hardscaping, lighting, signage, and knee wall improvements to North Manhattan between Kimball Avenue and Claflin Road.

The objective is to reduce project costs due to contractors already being on site, which eliminates mobilization, erosion control, traffic control, and other fixed costs. The two quotes received were very competitive, with Bayer Construction submitting the lower quote. The City will realize savings from design and construction engineering services by not going through the formal bid-build process, and already has approved submittals for contractors to complete landscaping, irrigation, hardscape, electrical, and wall mockups.
