Lynne Adell Hofman Morton, age 85, of Wamego, died October 26, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Health in Topeka.
She was born on December 1, 1937, in Wamego, the daughter of Delmar and Olive Ann (Edwards) Hofman. She grew up in the St. George and Wamego area. Lynne attended St. George schools and graduated with the class of 1955. She was proud of her playing days in high school on the basketball team at a time when women’s sports were still relatively young.
As a child, Lynne was involved in 4-H and later became a leader in both 4-H and Scouts. She attended Kansas State University for a year before becoming a homemaker and providing child care for several families. Later in life she was employed as an ophthalmologist office assistant.
On June 17, 1956, Lynne was united in marriage to Melvin “Sonny” Morton in Wamego. They were blessed with three children: Michael, Mark, and Michele.
Lynne enjoyed being part of the Wamego community. She was always willing to help and support the Wamego area events, such as the Tulip Festival, the Wamego Community Health Ministry, HollyFest and later she and Sonny delivered Meals on Wheels.
Lynne and Sonny were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Wamego. Through the years, she was active in helping with the VBS Programs and Sunday School at church as well woman’s groups and Bible studies. She also enjoyed gardening, houseplants, cooking, sewing, reading, and playing the piano and dulcimer. However, she will be remembered most for her faith in Jesus Christ and her love of family.
Lynne is survived by her husband of 67 plus years, Sonny Morton, her children: Michael Morton (Cleion), Mark Morton, Michele Morton-Best (Bill); her six grandchildren: Allison Smith (Matt), Katelin Goetz (Brett), Madison Morton, Makenzie Morton, Sierra Best, Bryce Best (Maddison) and Ethan Morton-Gaught. In addition, she leaves behind seven great grandchildren: Bella, Lily, and Harrison Smith; Brantley, Kinsley, and Wesley Goetz and Berkleigh Best.
A Celebration of Lynne’s Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Wamego, 601 Elm Street in Wamego, on Sunday, November 19 at 1:30 p.m.
A private family interment will be held in the Wamego City Cemetery.
