Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 names new director of special education

RILEY COUNTY —Dr. Jessica Nelson has been named the Director of Special Education for Manhattan-Ogden USD 383, according to a media release from the district.

Dr. Nelson will begin her new role on July 1, 2024 and replaces Interim Director Dr. Roger Christian. Dr. Christian is retiring in June, 2024.

Dr. Nelson currently serves as Executive Director of Special Education for Geary County USD 475 in Junction City, KS. She has served in that position since 2023. Prior to that, she was a District Level Behavior Consultant for USD 475. Dr. Nelson began her career as a special education teacher for Manhattan-Ogden USD 383. She has also served as a board-certified behavior analyst and a university instructor and assistant professor. She received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Kansas State University, a M.S. in Special Education from Emporia State University, and Ed.D in Special Education from Kansas State University.

“I am honored to be returning to USD 383,” states Nelson. “I look forward to working with the incredible special education department as well as the amazing educators and administrators at USD 383.”
