Robert B. Niehoff Sr.

Robert B. Niehoff Sr. was born in 1928, and entered eternal life on March 16, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years and mother of his eight children, Carolyn Lynch Niehoff; his parents Charles and Lillian Niehoff; his sisters Helen Demling; Thelma Tanner; Lillian Brauner; Margaret Raque; Ruth Hutcherson; brothers Joseph and Herman Niehoff.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Fay Comfort Niehoff; his children Kathleen Wheatley of Bellbrook, OH; Susan Mize (Lynn) of Pensacola, FL; Robert B. Niehoff Jr. (Marilyn); Brian Niehoff (Usha Reddi) of Manhattan, KS; Timothy Niehoff (Timmie Butler); Patrick (Peggy) of Ft. Mitchell, KY; Laurie Niehoff of New York, NY; John (Lisa); Lisa Comfort Brooks (Richard); Mark Comfort (Joan) of Lexington, KY; Paul Comfort (Paula) of Savannah, GA; and 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Louisville and a 1945 graduate of St. Xavier High School. He was a longtime employee of Kentucky Dairies and Sealtest. He retired from Rohm and Haas Chemical.

Music was always an important part of Bob’s life. He played trombone from the time he was in the 6th grade until he wa 94 years old. He played with the Holy Name Band and several dance bands, most often with the Don Krekel Orchestra. He was also a very talented carpenter and handyman.

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. He loved our many family parties.

Several of his children inherited his talent for music, and all loved to entertain.

He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Epiphany, where he served as Eucharistic minister to the homebound. He also volunteered at the Franciscan Kitchen for many years. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road on March 30 at 5:00 PM. Mass and Christian burial will be held at Epiphany Church at 914 Old Harrods Creek Road on March 31 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Franciscan Kitchen at 748 S. Preston Street, Louisville, KY 40203 or St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis.
