The Manhattan City Commission during a Tuesday, March 11 work session will discuss its current adoption process for new ordinances. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the City Commission Room at City Hall, located at 1101 Poyntz Avenue.
Prior to 2012, Kansas state law required the City to consider ordinances at two separate meetings. Accordingly, Municipal Code Sec. 2-18 requires the City Commission to consider ordinances at two public meetings. Since the state law changed, though, many other cities have changed to just one consideration.
This item will discuss the background, concerns, and benefits related to changing to consideration at just one meeting. City administration will seek commissioners’ feedback on any changes they want to pursue in the future.
