Doris Eileen MacLaird Nelson, 86, of Junction City, died Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th Street, Junction City with Reverend Robert Frasier officiating. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Friends of Animals P.O. Box 580, C.L. Hoover Opera House P.O. Box 3005 or to the Ladies Reading Club 224 N. Jefferson Street all of Junction City, Kansas 66441.

Doris was born May 5, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Willard Henry and Ethel Marie (Klien) Warren. Prior to moving to Junction City, Kansas at the age of 16, she attended school in Ladora and Marengo, Iowa. She married Kenneth A. MacLaird, Jr. on August 8, 1954 in Junction City, Kansas. He died January 18, 1968. She later married Nathan K. Nelson April 15, 1978. He died March 29, 1986.Doris worked as a homemaker raising her family for many years. During the time of raising her sons, she served as a Cub Scout pack leader. She supported the Boy Scouts of America for many years. She also owned and operated rental property in Junction City. At one time, she worked at Irwin Army Community Hospital in the Mental Health Department. Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ladies Reading Club, the Geary County Landlord Association and the Junction City Lady Troopers. She also did volunteer work at the C.L. Hoover Opera House.  Doris was very patriotic and enjoyed celebrating the Fourth of July. She also enjoyed the Christmas season. She was known as a big supporter of Junction City and Fort Riley.

Survivors include three sons, Steven MacLaird of Quinlan, Texas, Phillip MacLaird of Mission, Texas and Perry MacLaird of Conway, Arkansas; one brother, Robert Warren; one sister, Helen Spinler; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Kenneth A. MacLaird and Nathan K. Nelson; one son, Patrick D. MacLaird.
