Riley County police posted information via social media about the dangers of Fentanyl, which 80-100 times stronger than morphine. A lethal dose of fentanyl is estimated to be about two milligrams. As of April 2021, fentanyl fatalities increased 49.4% in just 12 months.-
Fentanyl fatally poisons 175 people every day- It is tied to 64% of total drug fatalities- four out of every ten pills with Fentanyl contain a potentially lethal dose. Fentanyl is used in fake Xanax, Oxycodone, and Adderall pills, and has been found in molly, cocaine, heroin, meth, ecstasy, and ketamine, among many other substances.
Police emphasized that an individual who overdoses is not a suspect in their investigations. The goal is to identify, apprehend and prosecute the distributor and/ distribution network. Criminal drug networks mass-produce these fake pills and falsely market them as legit prescription pills. The only safe medications are ones prescribed by a trusted medical professional and dispensed by a licensed pharmacist.
