Riley County officials have learned of the death of longtime employee Cheryl Collins. She passed away Wednesday morning after a brief illness.
Most recently, the Riley County Historical Museum Director, she had worked there since March 1981. During that time, she helped grow the museum into a treasure where people from all over the country have come to learn about their lineage, and the history of the area.
“There is no one I know that had the knowledge, background, love and compassion for local history as she did,” said Riley County Commission Chair John Ford. “It was always a marvel to watch her light up when discussing Riley County’s past.”
Collins is survived by her husband and son.
Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home of Manhattan is in charge of arrangements. A funeral will take place Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church.
